Post 4: Statistics Essay I

Humanistic Psychology:
The best way to discover yourself.

Since I've been studying psychology I've known a very diverse fields with a lot of paradigms that try to explain the way of being of everyone because of that I started to analyze myself from those different theories, since behaviorism, which is one of the most dehumanizing paradigms to psychoanalysis which is one the most known in this discipline. However I want  to propose the Humanistic Psychology as the best paradigm to discover yourself and to strengthen you because this psychology contemplate to the human being as a whole, who through the therapy can end with the masks that we use to survive in this modern society or realize which parts of his personality are absolutely genuine, at least. This is the only way to feel free and comfortable with the things that we express to the world.

Post 3: Peer review

Hello everyone!
When I heard the words "Peer review" I didn't know what was it but after the teacher explain us that a Peer review is when another person review a manuscript from someone and gives ideas to improve it. Then we saw a video with tips to be a good peer reviewer and make a perfect job. So now I will give my opinion about a "Step by Step Guide to Reviewing a Manuscript" that is a section in the website authorservices.wiley.com. The first thing that we have to do is decide the Report Format, there are two: informal structure and formal structure. I think that I prefer an informal structure because that generates more confident between the author and the reviewer but in the most of cases the structure depends on the manuscript because there are some peer reviews that needs a formal structure to be presented. After that it is necessary to do a "skim-read" that means the first reading of the article to form the first impression and handle aims, keys and conclusions. I find it an important step because makes easier the following steps and is the opportunity to decide if you will accept or reject the paper.
After the first reading and identify the important points you have. The best to do a good first reading is make notes. Then it's time to do the second reading that needs more concentration because you have to analyse each paragraph carefully, and pay attention to details, this reading it supposed to be faster because you already have the ideas clear. The second read is important to prepare the article for publication so you have to confirm that each section is complete. In my opinion more than the report structure, the confidentiality is the most important aspect because the fact of give any text to another person for evalution requires a lot of bravery because I think that everyone leave a part of themselves in a manuscript. For me all the things that I mentioned before are important because they are formalities but there is something that is more essential and that it's have the courage to help others to improve their work.

Post 2: The Introduction

Anthropology theories are important to the Psychology field because they study the human being in all their ways, and the Psychology is working with the personality, behaviour, and all the things that involve our way to face the world. I know that everyone is unique and only and is too risky generalize but we have to establish some patterns and there is when the Anthropology appears as a underrated discipline (in the Psychology field) but if you learn the basics discoveries of it you will know that Anthropology has an important place in a lot of the psychological approaches. So through this paper I will evaluate their influence in the different paradigms of Psychology because the human being in it's entirety connected with our enviroment make us different. In the order to explore these influences I've been reading about the Anthropology theories especially the evolutionism, functionalism and materialism. Also about the Psychology paradigms I've been reading about conductism, cognitivism, psychoanalysis, constructionism because I think that the Anthropologistic schools of thought inserts really well in the Psychology paradigms that I mentioned before. To make a good relation between these two disciplines I have to present historical facts, and compare every theory and paradigm so I will be able to recognise the influence of Anthropology. This is an important research because according to the scientist Theodore Schwartz "anhropology has not had the impact it should on mainstream psychology considering the claims that psychological anthropology makes or should make". To conclude I'll be reviewing all the research because new things can appear in the road.

Post 1: That day, that night...

That day the night came earlier than expected, and that not surprised me, because the weather is unpredictable as feelings. Feelings. For some reason I was thinking about them all morning and afternoon although I don't remember why. I remember traces of something that happened before at school, but they are so confusing that I don't know if it's a dream or reality, didn't even know if the feelings had something to do there.

"Knock-knock"

The knock on the door woke me up from my dreams and brought me back to reality.

"Come in"- I said.

The head that I saw had fine features with blue eyes so deep that it was imposible to take your eyes of them. My mother. Her name was Lucy, she was a small woman, sweet and warm-hearted.

"My love, you have a visitor, he told me that is a classmate of yours"- She reported.
"Really? I'll be there immediately"- I answered serenely.

The door closed, and I went to the window to see who was coming to meet me. He was a boy, but I didn't know who. His body gave off waves of familiarity that made me feel special, awakening my curiosity and nobody until now could cause in me.

Without thinking another second, I crossed the door, went downstairs and walked through the living room. In a moment I was facing door, I opened rapidly, so I almost fell back, but in that second someone held my hand, and a eyes settled on mine, they had a wild look but full of emotions unrecognizable, was too intense to be resisted, they still were on mine, cutting off my breathing.

I cleared my mind. Who was he? His eyes. Had different shades? I never got to finish ordering my thoughts, because, his voice -pleasant as the fall of a waterfall, by the way-, broke the silence:

"Good night! Emerald"
"Hum good...who are you?"- I asked.

The words came unconsciously, and once I understood what I just said, it was too late. He still wouldn't let go my hand, but at the time, I made an effort to break the link, undid his grip. He stared at me and said with a sadness that left me speechless:

"I see you don't remember me"

His eyes were a sea of grief, disappointment, and yearning, bathed in infinite purity. I didn't know what to answer, I was taken aback, spiritless I said:

"Oh! I'm sorry, but I don't remember you"

I think he misread my intentions, because in his face came a look of dissapointment...or it was pain?

"Sorry I think it was a mistake to come".- And suddenly he was gone.

I closed the door and returned to my room, not even my parents talked to me, I think they felt that strange atmosphere between this guy and me. I slept uneasily, that young man was like a magnet, especially his eyes. His eyes. Full of feelings and emotions. spoke for themselves.

He without knowing changed me, but he was still a stranger. Right?

English Language Challenge

Hello everyone!

When I started the university this year, my first thought about English wasn't good because for me it would be more workload, and the only I wanted was finish this subject soon. But I was totally wrong because I loved this subject, it wasn't boring at all. I think that I was very lucky with my English classmates and Miss; they are people so nice that I hope to be with them again in the next level.
The blogs on Wednesday were my favorite day, I love write so it was a dream come true could express myself through the different post. Besides write about things that I love makes me really happy, and I never had a blog before so I really enjoyed this experience.

According to English aspects I think that I have to improve my conversation with others because I'm still being very shy, and for other side I think that I have a lot of grammar mistakes. To improve these aspects I will try to talk in English with my friends, and keep writing stories sometimes.

Outside English class I don't use the language very often, but I watch a lot of series and movies in English so in that moment I think in English, and I want to talk in English to everyone. Sometimes I notice when the subtitles are wrong and I feel really good for notice that.

My dream is travel to an English country soon to put into practice all the thing that I have learnt in my whole life, I will treasure that moment forever.

Goodbye friends!

Changes to My Study Programme

Hello everyone!

I think until now I have never though about my study programme (all of it) because this is my first year at university. over this year I realized that my study programme is very old! Because of that the psychology study programme is in an curricular innovation process and the opinion of all students is being taken into account.

That situation makes me think about my current subjects: Social History of Chile, Philosophy, Psychology, Anthropology, Social Research Methodology and Psychobiology. I think that the 6 of it are necessary to have an integral formation as a psychologist but maybe Social History I would reduce it to a unit inside other subject because I think that the essence of psychology is lost in one semester of Social History because only in the past class of this subject I understood why are we studying that.

About the next subjects I will not talk because I don't know really well if they are good or necessary. But I will refer to things that I think the career needs and that would be instances to develop our emotional intelligences during all the career, not only in the final practice, because if we have the opportunity to develop that maybe the career would become easier in some aspects and really meaningful.

In respect of workload this semester I don't think that it were too much, but I see my friends of second and third year really tired so I think the workload must be reduced. About lenght of studies they are okey, the hours a week are enough and the 5 years of career are perfect.

The faculty gives all the facilities with computers, books and Wi-Fi to do the work and study. And other thing that I love it's the technology in the classrooms with microphones and projectors. I don't have a class that needs a lot of technology (like labs or something like that) yet.

About the teaching methods all my professors are really good but some of them don't use microphone so it's really hard to listen well in a classroom with 120 students or they talk too fast and I lose the track of the class. But despite of that things I'm happy with my professors and the way they do their classes.

So I think that it's very clear that despite a few things I'm really happy with my career (and study programme haha). I love psychology!

Winter Holidays

Hello everyone!

Today I'm very excited because my favorite season winter is near and with it comes the winter holidays. I spend every holiday in Temuco city, I always go around one week in winter and a month in summer, and why is that? Because my father lives there (well all my family is from Temuco, even I was born there but for a few things I ended up living in Santiago with my mother).

Probably these holidays when I travel to Temuco I'll only stay in the apartment with my grandparents because my dad is working and he is saving his holidays for summer season. So among the activities that we can do with my dad (because we are very united) are going to the cinema because both are crazy about movies, and also enjoy a barbecue with our friends. Also I'm going to visit my grandmother on my mom side, and maybe I will spend a few days in her apartment. Many times I ended very tired because in Temuco I always have something to do, someone to visit (especially family) and I don't have enough time for everything, so my holidays are full of promises about visiting them the next time.

I'm not planning to work or study in winter because I really need time for myself, I need time to read my favorite books, to watch a lot of series, to sleep all day if I want. Maybe if it was strictly necessary work or study I will do it without problems.

I really love the atmosphere that winter generates, specially to read a good book and drink a cup of tea.
